Call of Duty Black Ops 4 is an interesting package and among the game modes it offers, Blackout is arguably the best place where you can get the most fun. And so with no further ado, let’s check out some of the Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Blackout tips and tricks!
1. Landing 101
Just like Fortnite and PUBG, at the beginning of the game players will jump off from a helicopter and get to land on the area they want. But here’s the twist: every character has wingsuit which allows movement maneuver right in the air. The trick is: keep plunging down to the ground til you reach 70m/s (you can see your speed via the indicator on the right side), then tilt upward and you will perform a beautiful glide. This will provide huge advantage as you can land where you want much easier.
And talk about landing, one thing to note is that landing on remote areas like a small unmarked village can be rather dangerous. Since there are so few buildings within these areas, you are more likely to be ambushed with nowhere to run especially if another team landed there first. On the other hand, larger areas may pack with lots of players but at the very least, they have more buildings to hide and plus, it is easier to grab weapons.
2. Find weapon ASAP
The very first you want to do right after landing is to find a weapon. This is especially important since Blackout map is actually rather small despite its initial impression. As the result, players tend to encounter each other really soon, which means the faster you have your weapon, the quicker you can engage in combat. And if you are lucky, you may even take down some unlucky players who haven’t got any weapon yet.
3. Loot is Random
It is confirmed that loots throughout Blackout will be completely random, which means you are more likely to get different weapons in the same building every game. Therefore, it can be extremely rewarding if you try searching in different buildings.
However, there is one thing you should be aware if you want to do the looting: Always check the surroundings carefully beforehand. Because looting in Blackout mostly takes a short time channeling, it will leave you vulnerable to enemy’s attack. Even you succeed getting your precious loot; it will still be for nothing if the enemy can kill you and pillage all of your goods afterwards.
4. Weapons and Attachments, what should we get?
There are quite many weapons to grab in Blackout, but the big question is: which weapons should we prioritize? Based on many players’ experience, the two best weapons for every game are assault rifle and scoped sniper rifle. Assault rifle is great for mid-range combat; while the scoped sniper rifle is fantastic to pick up enemy from afar, plus, you can scout areas from far distance.
As for Attachments, the two essential ones are a 3x or higher zoom scope which allows you to scout and eliminate enemy in long range, and a suppressor which allows you to kill the enemy without exposing your position.
5. Healing 101
Healing is always an essential element in every match. Therefore, it is extremely important to know all the healing items in Blackout, they are:
- First Aids: Can be applied very fast and heal 25 Health. They are the most common healing items and can stack 5 times in one inventory slot.
- Med Kits: Heal 50 Health but take longer time to use than First Aids.
- Trauma Kits: Heal you to max Health and gives you 50 additional Health. They are of course much rarer than Med Kits and each Trauma Kit takes up one inventory slot.
As you can see, Trauma Kits are the most powerful healing item in Blackout and fortunate enough; they are not that hard to come by. Also, it is encouraged to prioritize using Trauma Kits since it gives a big boost in Health. Especially when combining with Level 3 Armor, you can mostly win any short and mid-range combat. And since the Level 3 Armor has better protection and reduces headshot damage, you can even survive sniping shot, retreat, heal and analyze the situation.
6. Always aim for Headshot
Head shot is always the best way to take down enemy in every gunfight, and it is even more important in Blackout. The reason is: most enemy you encounter will have Armor. Armor gives a huge survivability boost and therefore, shooting their body will not be a great body. Instead, it is suggested to aim for head shot since the two most common Level 1 and Level 2 Armor does not provide head protection.
The same goes for you, it is highly recommended to get Armor before engaging in battle. And as mentioned, Level 3 Armor provides the best protection, including head-shot damage reduction. Because of that, getting a Level 3 Armor should worth the risk especially when combining with Trauma Kit.
7. Aware the Mystery Box…
Yes, you heard it right. There is Mystery Box included in Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Blackout. The Mystery Box in Blackout works rather similar to Call of Duty Zombies mode. Occasionally you may see a blue beam of light in the sky which indicates the current location of the Mystery Box. Opening the Mystery Box will give you a variety of sick loots like the Ray Gun or Zweihander. But beware; you will have to fend off a horde of zombies protecting the Mystery Box if you want to get to it. Furthermore, fighting the zombies will highly give out your position. In certain cases, you may get ambushed by other teams who patiently wait for your guard to drop and pillage everything you have.
So far there are 5 locations where Mystery Box tends to appear: Inside the Asylum courtyard, the graveyard south-east of the Asylum, bottom of the Lighthouse, a gas station west of Array, and in the small river village between Turbine and Fracking Tower, south of Rivertown. Also, there can only be 2 boxes appearing at one time.
8. … But also don’t forget the Supply Stashes and Drops
Aside from the infamous Mystery Box, players can still grab some awesome loots from Supply Stashes and Supply Drops. Supply Stashes are hidden creates which can be found within buildings throughout the map, while Supply Drops are air-dropped crates. And again, beware that Supply Stashes and Supply Drops can be both your greatest savior and also your greatest nightmare. It is always wise to examine the surroundings for ambushes before looting from those sweet Supply Stashes and especially Supply Drops since those Drops are much more noticeable by other players.
9. Driving 101
To help players move around the map faster, Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Blackout features 4 vehicles:
- ATV (2 Players Max): Ground vehicle which can run pretty fast and only the passenger can shoot.
- Cargo Truck (5 Players Max): Ground vehicle which allows players to hold loot inside and also, players can prone or crouch in the back.
- Little Bird Helicopter (3 Players Max): Air vehicle featuring attached guns, yet it has low Health.
- Zodiac (4 Players Max): Water vehicle which is mainly used to travel the large river following through the entire middle of the map.
These vehicles can help you travel between areas pretty fast; however, it will give out your location and also, leave you out in the open. For this reason, you should use your vehicle wisely, especially when the enemy can destroy you extremely quickly with rocket launcher.
10. Stacking Perks, why not?
Perks in Blackout work quite different from other Call of Duty Black Ops 4 modes. Since there is no Loadout in Blackout, players cannot pick their preferred Perks and instead, they will find them lying in buildings throughout the map. These Perks are changed to consumable items which provide limited-time buffs after using them.
Each Perk will take up one inventory slot and therefore, certain guides will suggest you to use them as soon as possible. However, there is another interesting tip which recommends players to holding onto those Perks you found til the end-game, which is a great idea actually since these Perks will give you a huge winning advantage.
That being said, it is probably best to use these Perks depending on different situations and the Perk’s benefit itself. For example, Perks like Looter and Stimulant should be used as you find them; while Perks like Paranoia, Iron Lungs, Skulker, Outlander, and Consumer combo can be held onto til the decisive moment since they give you bunch of combat advantage like crouching/walking faster, taking less damage from the circle, using healing items faster, holding breath for longer, and detecting enemy when they are aiming at you.
11. Use Specialist Items creatively
Since all characters like the Specialists in Blackout are simply “cosmetic,” they do not have any special ability or weapon. Luckily, players can still find these Specialist items throughout Blackout map, just like other items. Interesting enough, players can use these Specialist Items in many creative ways, for example, there is an infamous combo by attaching the Sensor Dart gadget to a vehicle for mobile detection or even better, a Recon Car so that it can remotely scout the enemy for you. Since people tend to focus more on the drone itself, you will have much better chance of “assassinating” them. There seem to be many other combinations so don’t hesitate to test them out.
12. Take cover and hide!
And here’s the most important tip of all: always try to be stealthy and stay out of open area as much as possible. This is especially important if you are so used to Fortnite. Unlike Fortnite which allows players building walls out in the open, Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Blackout does have this mechanic. This means: you will need to hide and take cover to increase your survivability.
The very first hiding/covering spot comes to mind is building. This works quite well in the early game since most players do not have much good stuffs, unless you get ambushed in the building. But later on, you will need to be creative in terms of hiding. The problem is: many players will have some extremely good stuff in late game like grenades, rocket launchers, wall-penetration, and more… And so in certain cases, building can turn out to be your deathtrap. Of course, staying out in the open can be overwhelming. But if you can manage to stay still in the bush or shady area, your enemy will actually have more difficult time finding you as most of them are more likely to focus on buildings.
