★ ABOUT DEMON’S SOULS REMAKE:

– Demon’s Souls is an action role-playing game developed by Bluepoint Games with assistance from SIE Japan Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It is a remake of Demon’s Souls, originally developed by FromSoftware and released for the PlayStation 3 in 2009. The game was released as a launch title for the PlayStation 5 in November 2020.

– The game features new weapons, armor, and rings and new items called “Grains” which give players a temporary resistance to effects like poison, fire, and bleeding.[1] As with the original, players are limited in how much they can carry before their character becomes encumbered, and some aspects of this encumbrance system have been adjusted. For example, in the original game, healing grasses have no weight, so players could potentially carry hundreds of them; in the remake, these healing items now have a weight associated with them so that the amount players can carry is significantly lessened, and more potent grasses weigh more than less effective ones.[1] One new feature, called “Fractured World”, is a mirror mode which reverses the layout of environments.[2] The game also includes a photo mode, whereupon using it the game will pause, something not possible in the original. Filters from the photo mode can also be used during gameplay, including a “classic mode” filter intended to evoke the look of the original PlayStation 3 game.[1] Although the Souls series is notorious for its difficulty, Bluepoint stated that the remake would not introduce different difficulty levels.[3] The character creation feature has also been updated, with more options for customization.

★ DEMON’S SOULS REMAKE FUN FACTS:

  • Players can play around with the display settings in Demon’s Souls, a feature that is mostly absent in other console video games. First of all, the PlayStation 5’s promise of achieving 60 frames per second is evident in Demon’s Souls. Players can run the game in Performance Mode, which targets upscaled 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, or Cinematic Mode, which runs in native 4K at 30 frames per second.
  • In 2020’s Demon’s Souls, players have the option to pause the game (sort of) by using Photo Mode.
  • Even if player successfully puts down the Vanguard Demon, they will be teleported to another place. They will then encounter an even more powerful boss which will “punch” the player to death and there’s nothing they can do about it.
  • The players also now have the option to customize their character’s appearance mid-game.
  • Players can still backstab all they want with ease and accessibility.
  • Demon’s Souls now has an over-the-shoulder camera placement, similar to many third-person action games, instead of the classic centered camera position.
  • The Fractured Mode is a new addition incorporated by Bluepoint Games into the Demon’s Souls remake. This newly-added feature essential reverses the entire map horizontally, adding a layer of unfamiliarity for those who might’ve played the original game to completion.
  • Online co-op can now support up to six players at once. The online feature can be accessed by interacting with the Black Maiden in the Nexus.
  • If the world tendency is white, meaning character interactions in that world have mostly been good, the player’s attacks will be stronger but they’ll earn fewer souls. If the world tendency is black, they’ll earn more souls but enemies hit harder.
  • If the player accidentally attacks an NPC but doesn’t want to fight them further or lose the chance of advancing their questline, they can simply turn to the Statue of Reflection in the Nexus to “seek forgiveness” in exchange for a couple of souls.
